Structural Drying Service

Importance of Structural drying

After the initial flood has been cleaned up it is important to then tackle the bound moisture in the structure. If left this leads to mould and bacterial outbreaks in the house which leads to health problems, loss of business and very expensive reconstruction & cleaning bills.

The key to effective structural drying is careful monitoring, a firm understanding of building construction techniques and materials and the right equipment for the job.

In Perth we find predominantly brick and mortar construction, when water gets absorbed into these materials it can be some of the most difficult water to extract and required specialised knowledge and equipment to deal with in an efficient and cost effective manner.

All too common are stories are stories about air movement alone being used to drying a structure. While air movement is an effective means of evaporating water in the first stage of the loss when there is standing water, when it comes to the second stage of structural drying this method used alone ineffective.

Even worse when the wet air is allowed to dwell in the structure reabsorbed back into the non-affected parts of the structure and also into contents damaging them. This is causes what we call secondary damage it completely unnecessary by using the correct equipment and drying techniques.

Our drying methods include:

Target heat drying

A 10 degree increase in wet materials can half the drying time. Putting heat only where it is needed using heat drying mats we can rapidly dry a structure. If you would like to read more about heat drying

LGR dehumidification

Low grain refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers get even more moisture out of the air than their conventional counterpart. This makes the air even more thirsty for water and greatly speeds the drying process.

Air injection

We make sure we dry all the structure, not just the places you can see. This specialist drying equipment works great at speeding the drying of studded gyprock walls. Not only does injection drying dry the unpainted side of the wall leading to faster dry times but it also dried the timber framing that might otherwise go missed which will cause can cause hidden mould growth eventually leading to structural damage.

Air movement

We carry a range of specialist air movement equipment for every job. Axial fans are great for drying vast stretches of walls while carpet blowers work great for rapidly drying carpet and floor other floor coverings.
